The firewall is a single layer, except down near the bottom -approximately the last foot. It actually forms a sort of tunnel across the bottom. According to Tunercat, the fuel cutoff in an 87 is ~5850 RPM and the resume speed is ~4000 RPM.

It's effectively disabled in the 88.
Cutoff is 1310720 RPM. Resume is 655360 RPM. (That's what's in the table.)
