Very exciting to see how much the price has come down for 3d-printed metal parts. Kids have it so easy these days!
I'm eager to find a project to use this tech on...

That transverse Rotary setup is interesting.
Obviously printing with metal would be more durable but you dont even need to (especially on the intake side), people have been printing with plastic (carbon fiber infused nylon) with excellent results.

this is my next step. I was figuring I will fab a lower, and then 3d print the upper, if nothing else as a proof of concept.NoGoodFiero wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2024 3:38 pm That transverse Rotary setup is interesting.

I can cast them in aluminum, iron, steel alloys or stainless. I have access to a foundry.
Do you have an 3d models yet? I can also just scan an original or use it to make patterns.
On the additive side I can formulate epoxies and composites to quickly print them using mSLA.

I haven't done any software design. I think I have an extra intake here but they are abundant. Here is one example as what they might cost you for a used oneCaptainHindsight wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 5:03 pm I can cast them in aluminum, iron, steel alloys or stainless. I have access to a foundry.

I had one sitting around until last year myself. If I was going going to make a bunch I'd cast them in aluminum.
What do you want up top, individual throttle bodies?

Yea. Itbs up top is what I'd want. Something around 52-55mm
Here was my old itb setup. I had and maybe still have a bunch of pics, but this thread has a video or two and some pics of how it looks. Maybe someone else here can post up old pics if they saved them

I'm happy to 3D scan an intake for you if you want to send me one.

here are some more pics of my old itb setup. this was on an lx9 3.5l. This is the design I would be looking for with a 3900, but with a bolt on tb instead of the integrated butterflys into the casting.

OK I see, fairly simple.
It's neat seeing the progression of the quality of the image sensors over time.
Edit:
https://www.v6z24.com/attachments/img_0041-1-jpg.95113/ I had a few questions until I saw this.

Re: Who wants to design a LZ itb intake and 3d print it?
Making an ITB for this 60 degree engine is a bit more involved than say an LS style engine. Obviously narrower engine, but also the lifter valley and oil drain back is under the lower intake on these 60 degrees, whereas on an LS it's not exposed, and can be covered with a valley plate.CaptainHindsight wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 2:58 pm OK I see, fairly simple.

I know Erik did a quick drawing in cad or some software a while back and posted a rough drawing of the lifter valley flanges and what not.
Will has an ITB INTAKE like I had, which the top part with the runners could possibly be scanned, and then the underside of an lz Intake be scanned, and the two combined in software? I don't know. It makes sense to me but I haven't played around with any of that type of software.
A casting or a billet piece would ultimately be the best. I might actually splurge for that

Slicing the top off the current manifold and adding the ITB's might look like this installed. Only more pretty.

Just have to leave room for the injectors and the seats with the tabs for the hold downs/clips.

Re: Who wants to design a LZ itb intake and 3d print it?
Anyone have rough measurements for the lower manifold X-Y as viewed from the top or bottom? Measuring tape accuracy is all that is required.
I might be able to fit it into this printer.

It's a mSLA and I can make resins hold up to temp and stress.

A guy named Marc a long time ago built a custom set but for an lx9/ 3400 lower intake manifold He did lz9 swaps in mgbs and what not. Had health issues, disappeared.CaptainHindsight wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 9:15 pm man-00.jpg

Not a real fan of this setup as it still uses the long factory runners on the lower intake. My itb intake had maybe 5-6 inch runners total and larger ports than a factory lower intake. I'd prefer it to look like my old itb, vs just bolting butterfly's onto the factory lower LZ intake
