Re: Lz9 + 4 spd manual trans in 86 GT swap
I put my alternator where the factory AC would be, for weight distribution and to keep the belt short and compact all to one side of the motor. But if someone is running AC they would not be able to do that, and I did have to jump through some hoops to get my belt routing situation better with a dif...

Re: NA 3900 Build
Chris sent me lots of helpful photos from his build including some exhaust pics, his car does sound amazing. I saw how you (and Guru) routed the shift cables, I like it, but I definitely would worry that it would add extra shifting effort from the additional bends that the cables have to go through....

Re: NA 3900 Build
if you're going to do shorty headers, I would at least save a ton of trouble and use a G6 front manifold, it's practically a shorty header as is. I just really want to have equal length runners and a collector to encourage scavenging, and for sound. It is a good manifold though, if I was doing a tu...

Re: Lz9 + 4 spd manual trans in 86 GT swap
I couldn't get my decklid to close with the factory lift bracket height, and that alternator is sticking up pretty high. How large does the notch end up being? For reference, my lift point has been cut down quite a lot here and I put a new slot in it, and the decklid is not even closed fully. https:...

Ah yes, I hadn't really considered that it would be hard to make sure the roller and the machined flat sides were completely parallel. Was there a suitable option with flat sides available for modification? I have done some cool things with Arduinos at work, including making the little microprocesso...

Some pics of the other projects. Bus frame is fully complete, painted, and then coated with Herculiner: https://i.imgur.com/5QjVUJ3.jpg Side skirts repaired, installed, all trim and windows installed with butyl tape, and then new polyurethane sealant on all seams, gaps, trim, windows, etc. A truly d...

Re: NA 3900 Build
Alright, haven’t touched the Fiero, but finished the R6 and put 1800 miles on it, did serious rust repair on the WRX - I replaced the entire rocker panel assemblies with square tubing and put a new motor in it and it is running good, been cranking on the bus and am super close to having a fully insu...

Nice work on the lifters, hope they work out for you. I disassembled my new lifters and ran them throuhh the ultrasonic cleaner and a ton of crap came out, definitely worth while. Why not just machine flats on the lifters and run the oem guides or machine new ones? Seems like the lifters were easy t...

Looking good! Are those Konig Countergrams? What size(s)? I would be interested in buying them from you if you do go to a different wheel and tire combo.

Re: Lz9 + 4 spd manual trans in 86 GT swap
FWIW when I did a deep dive into research for the LZ9, I recall the tuning for the VVT was not straight forwards and it was advanced and retarded all over the board vs having a crossover point. I think it is a good call to delete it if not running the stock ECU, unless someone can find the tables fr...

Re: 1988 Fiero track car
That looks like a good solution with minor fab. I have been considering using an oem shifter and cables from another car for my LZ9 F23, VW shifters are another good option as the shifter has a ball pivot, and I have been considering a Honda shifter and cables as well. I will need to modify the tran...

Re: Lz9 + 4 spd manual trans in 86 GT swap
The Lucerne water manifold and alternator location may be the best for a low fab 3900 install. Think the hinge box just needs a trimming, and maybe an idler bolted to one of the PS pump mounting holes, but also maybe not. https://i.imgur.com/aX58kyt.jpg AC or and idler down there needed: https://i.i...

Re: 1988 Fiero track car
It is the tight bends that do it, and I am having a hard time imagining how you will avoid some tight bends with the strut tower there. If you do end up modifying things (on the trans side of things), since there is no exhaust on the firewall side of the motor and looks like plenty of space with the...

Very cool, Honda makes some great motors and transmissions. Are you planning to modify the shifting linkage on the trans to reverse everything?

Re: progress on the banshee...
Nice simple solution on the line lock. Car is looking nice, maybe I am biased as a bumper pad owner but I just think the bumper pad Fieros are the best looking of all the Fieros when they are at a nice ride height with a good wheel/tire combo. They just really capture the 80s Italian sports car vibe.

I have used black silicone vacuum line for protecting harnesses and other tubing from rub areas, I just split it with a razor and zip tie it around the offending harness or hose. It is very flexible, durable, heat resistant, and can be found thin walled and in a large range of sizes and wall thickne...

Re: rear sway bar?
If nothing else, the way you can tune the rear of the car to behave how you want is worth having a rear swaybar. I have messed with rear sway bars on a bunch of different vehicles to dial out factory understeer, and my friend who races spec Miata does a lot of adjusting of his rear sway bar dependin...

Re: Installing 3500, LZ4, for the time being
Bummer about the rear main seal, one of the few seals I always replace on a used motor for any car since it is requires pulling the engine or trans (or both) to replace. Worth the <$20 and 10 min to replace. Especially when motors get pressure washed by the pullers and sometimes it is very hard to t...

Getting back into this, stupid WRX kept breaking. Blew both headgaskets when the rad had a catastrophic failure and rod bearings were going, fully rebuilt it with new everything, ran perfect for 3 days and blew up - massive #4 rod bearing failure, whole motor is trash, metal in every bearings, new o...
