Re: Staggered tire fitment.
Yep, when I was time attacking my C6 the move was always to switch to a square setup (Running 315s front and rear does hurt the tire budget though). The factory tire stagger is to make the car less likely to oversteer for the typical corvette owner's heavy foot and slow hands, not for ideal track pe...

Re: Staggered tire fitment.
My understanding is in theory you should pretty much always be staggered on the Fiero in accordance with your weight distribution. The Fiero is rear weight biased so you should have a wider tire on the back to maintain neutral handling. In practice, I did one track day in my totally stock 88 duke as...

Re: 1988 Fiero track car
I'm melting my bumper with less exhaust heat and more clearance to the tips. Add the shields and don't melt your bumper! Good to know - heat shields are definitely on the list before the first track shakedown then. There's a track day school on April 5th that I'll be instructing at so get free trac...

Re: Group buy: Front Lower Spherical Bearing Shells
Well that's pretty wild. Were you on slicks when that happened? Nope, just street legal track tires generated sufficient braking force (specifically the Toyo R888R at the time). I ended up having to go to a delrin bushing setup that pressed in from both sides to fix it. Also, if you're interested i...

Re: Group buy: Front Lower Spherical Bearing Shells
For some reason, I had it in my head that the OE bushings installed from the front. This doesn't make sense, because braking force would tend to unseat the bushings from the control arms. Actually measuring the control arms (again!) makes it clear that the OE bushings are installed from the rear. T...

Re: 1988 Fiero track car
Very professionally done, props to you. Love your exhaust work. I can't take credit for the exhaust work, much as I'd love to - it looks professionally done because it was done by professionals :-D . I am a very bad welder and don't have the right equipment so any metal fab is being handled by a lo...

"Handles like a go-kart" is one of my major pet peeves in car reviews. Go-Karts handle TERRIBLY compared to well set up car. No suspension, solid rear axle, no rear diff...can't even go around a corner properly unless you're lifting the rear inside tire...the only thing they have going for...

Re: 85GT Auto or Manual 3800SC?
I'd be hard pressed to pick an old torque converter auto over a manual for any purpose other than daily traffic commuter or dedicated drag race car, personally. For a car that's intended to be fun to drive, the 3rd pedal just gives so much more connection to the vehicle.

If you go used, you probably could find a set of Ti rods, on a budget. This one is $1,250: https://www.ebay.com/itm/266472618709?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=a2Ts-uUeSvq&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I would be very cautious about u...

Re: New engine swap just dropped
If I was going to run a super high compression, very expensive engine...I'd probably go over to 4piston and pick up one of their ridiculous 450whp K24 based offerings:

Re: 1988 Fiero track car
Elected to go with a Hybrid Racing K swap shifter instead of trying to make the stock RSX box work. It was going to be too hacky to get that plastic thing to mount up (too wide for the tunnel) and the Hybrid racing one was on a black friday deal. Still using stock cables and flipping the braket on t...

Re: 1988 Fiero track car
That looks like a good solution with minor fab. I have been considering using an oem shifter and cables from another car for my LZ9 F23, VW shifters are another good option as the shifter has a ball pivot, and I have been considering a Honda shifter and cables as well. I will need to modify the tra...

Re: 1988 Fiero track car
Looking more into it, it seems like what others have done successfully is flipped the stock honda shifter around so the cables come out the back - that lets the cables come at the transmission from the firewall side with the normal shift pattern I'll test fit that up first and see what happens. Some...

Re: 1988 Fiero track car
Very cool, Honda makes some great motors and transmissions. Are you planning to modify the shifting linkage on the trans to reverse everything? To start with no, I'll be using the stock RSX shifter and cables, and just routing them to come at the transmission from the back. They look to be plenty l...

Few more progress pics. Engine in the car! Lots of room for activities in the bay with the 4 cylinder. IMG_7466.jpg Exhaust progress. Header is on. The bottom of the trunk is cut out for room for mufflers. I'm not a fan of obnoxiously loud race cars but also want good exhaust flow so the only soluti...

Re: 1988 Fiero track car
Looks great! Did you fab or buy the k20 mounts? I initially bought them from someone down in the states who is pioneering the K-swap fiero. He did a production run of K24 mounts, which are slightly different - he was going to do a production run of K20 mounts but they never got off the ground. He s...

Re: 1988 Fiero track car
Long time no update. But! Progress has been made. Spent a lot of time waiting for various things, and the engine mounts needed to be fabb'd up from scratch - the ones sent by the guy in the states were...not great. I also haven't taken as many pictures as I ought to yet. Anyways, engine is in the ca...

Re: rear sway bar?
As a counterpoint, if your rear springs are stiff enough to provide the desired handling characteristics, having no rear sway bar should give you excellent traction on the exit of a corner. More bar is not necessarily better, it should be used as a tuning tool to adjust the handling balance of the c...

Re: 1990 Fiero Build Up
Suspension from the 88 but the high output LQ1 as top engine was the plan from what I've seen. Would have been a good competitor to the miata and second gen MR2 if they could keep the weight down.
Styling wise there is a LOT of 4th gen firebird in that car, wow.
