Re: Yo - Where is the Stimpy?

Don't know, Stimpy just ran an ad that essentially said, "I'm done with Fieros," and I didn't really pry anymore on its' condition. I just knew that I'm a lot more of a body and paint guy than an engine guy so this was going to save me a lot of time and bucks on a build. All the engine con...

Re: Yo - Where is the Stimpy?

Hey, Boscolingus, that body might have been flawless when you saw it last but it was totally shot when I got it. Sun bleached paint, plastics torn, busted windshield, interior mostly in a heap with one seat bolted down, lowering springs on the front without adjusted bump stops, buttt... there was th...

Smarter Smarts?

Okay, this is just for shits and giggles...

It's amazing those things don't tip over but I guess the low center of gravity on the drivetrain helps.

Lowlux if you've got that style of mirror stuck in your head spend a lot less on it. Here's one source. Look at the first mirrors on the page. They are clones of the Baby Turbo. http://www.dansperformanceparts.com/buggy/extacc/Mirrors%20and%20wipers.htm You also might want to pick up a copy of Hot V...

This is an interesting read on these "specialty" type batteries. http://www.stealth316.com/2-dynabatt.htm I run the Odyssey 680 as seen further down the page. It doesn't have a ton of reserve but works well with regular driving. I do keep a battery maintainer on the car during the week whe...

Thanks, that's some handy info. Wheel and tire shops usually blow you off when asking about the rings especially if you've got an older set of good wheels.

I've been building kit cars, doing body kits, and just about anything that was made of fiberglass for the last 37 years now. There are very few fiberglass craftsmen left here in the U.S. Add to that the current "state of the art" in fiberglass work... Most molds are getting older and show ...

Thanks, guys. Good points about the welds Makes sense. Will, I like that idea about making it stronger by getting it on the crade. I'm going to order a set and see what I can do with them.

RCC Bump Steer Kit

Just curious, anybody here have one of these kits installed on their car?
http://dwayne9.addr.com/fiero.html

From what I've read they are probably not going to be quite as effective as the Held set up but we're just talking $120 here. Anybody?

First a disclaimer, I'm no chemist, I'm a professional wood restorer and conservator and auto body painting is just my "hobby." So with that said I think that most of the plastic painting you see "aftermarket" in the engine bay that does hold up is being done with something a lit...

Will, yeah, that's exactly what I did on my last custom truck build. You can just assemble the stuff you need yourself or buy a kit like this one from Painless.... http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_44232_-1 Painless makes about 3 different kits for various headlights....

Only two mediums I've heard of for the mix of plastics on a Fiero is deformable plastic pellet blasting and soda blasting. Even at that, you've got to have a very experienced operator or he can still do some damage if he doesn't keep moving.

You sound like you've got a plan. As for colors I know the SMC stuff is white ( if you start getting a powdery look to it stop!., that's the mold release IN the SMC), I looked at broken fender on my parts car and it has a yellowish cast, just not sure on the rest of everything. As for that thickness...

Biggest problem with Fieros is the many different type of plastic you're looking at. You've go RIM, RIMM, SMC, and the flexy bumper stuff. If you've got saponification of your coating now (that cracking you're talking about) there's enough paint on there to seriously look at using chemicals to break...

First, I'm no expert at this but I have been building kit cars for 35 years now so I've picked up some stuff along the way. Well, you do know you're not looking at fiberglass, right? That roof is SMC (Sheet Molded Compound). Easy way to tell is that as it breaks loose it seems kind of powdery. That'...

Just can't help myself. They won't be jump out and bite you stuff. Most of it won't even show until you're in bright sunlight. It'll mostly just look like a red car going down the road. Hey, I sent you an e-mail a day or so ago with a few questions. If you get a chance take a look. Thanks.

Yep, I've been reading posts here for a couple of months just didn't have much to comment on with Fieros until I could jump into a project. Nahhh... orange won't be happening. I'll be going base/clear in a solid color red. I'll be trimming that up with ghost flames using industrial crushed diamonds ...

Okay, I couldn't help myself. Guy from Ohio here with Stimpy's car. Well, first of all I was planning on doing an L67, LS4 or similar swap on a Fiero. Even already had an 88 formula getting ready for a Finale body change and was going to wait for Sinister to do all of or at least part of the engine ...
