Thoughts on a tinted windshield

Post by Unsafe At Any Speed »

I've been thinking about tinting my windshield when I get the windows on my car tinted. Nothing drastic, but maybe like a 50% tint. I don't think it would hurt night visibility too much. I also realize that it's illegal, but with 20% on the sides and a 5% tint strip on the top of the windshield, I don't think it would be overly noticeable. Has anyone had any experience with tinted windshields. This kid I know of had 5% which is utterly stupid.

I wouldnt' do it. I had 20% on my old car(passenger windows not windshield) and had a hard time seeing out of them at night.

You hit someone and you cuold be in deep doo doo. Not worth it.

I had a buddy that wanted me to do his windshield years ago. I didn't of course. I dont' understand the fascination with that as I know quite a few people who want to do it.

If you do, I will tell you it will look like crap. You will have a large parting line down the middle of your windshield as it will take 2 or even 3 sheets to cover the windsheild. Talk about tacky!!!

I live in Florida. Sun is about as bright as you will find in any state, and I have no desire to tint my windsheild. I like to see out of mine.

If you dont have night time where you are at, it may be ok, otherwise it would suck. You may look like an idiot to other drivers too, they may think 'Look at that idiot, he cant even see out his windshield!'

On a show car only, it would be neat, unless you have a cool interior, but a driver, no.

My CTS has 5% on every window except the windshield. At night I can hardly see out the side windows. I think tint on a windshield would be retarded.

If you got into any accident you would automatically be 100% at fault.

Just to clarify, this thread was originally started in reference to my Fiero. I wouldn't ever tint the windshield of my V or any car I would drive regularly. Still, don't think I will tint the Fiero either. Just wanted to throw up some pictures of it.

I have 15% on my Fiero, and 5% on the maroon one. Although tinting the 1/4 windows looks badass, it makes it extremely difficult as far as visibility goes, especially for lane changes. I can deal with it, but it could easily cause an accident if you don't drive carefully and pay attention to your surroundings well.

A fiero with tinted 1/4 windows still has 10x the visibility of a pannel van. I hate driving those...

I laugh at those stupid signs on truck that talk about the "no zone"... Or anyone/thing who insists that you're not safe around a truck unless you can see the driver's face in the mirror.
