AC compressor leaking erl

Post by Red »

It's a 2000 Grand Pricks compressor mated to a 3800SC in my Fiero. The AC works well when it holds a charge, but the compressor is leaking some oil from one of the "plugs" (it kinda looks like a freeze plug in the bottom/side of the compressor body).

The system won't hold a charge for more than a couple of weeks. I assume that if it's leaking oil there, it's also leaking refrigerant.

Did I do something wrong? Too much oil in the system when I filled it? Or is the compressor bad?

Compressor's bad. Does it bubble or hiss? When I had a case leak on my ac compressor, it was bubbling oil from the case and making a very slight hissing.

I don't see any bubbling or hear any hissing... but I do see oil leaking out. It's happening very slowly.

What caused the compressor to go bad?

What usually happens is a little water gets into some cracks and the aluminum starts to oxidize and the crack gets bigger. Eventually you get a leak.
