EGR delete and emissions testing

Post by Red »

What kind of results will you get from an emissions test on a car with the EGR disabled in the chip?

If you have enough tunability to make the car pass your states emissions standards without the EGR it'll be fine. If, however, the tech doing the test is a stickler, and your local laws require that if the vehicle has the emissions setup it had from the factory you're screwed either way.

My car passed the Mass sniffer test with a block-off EGR, and the tech never opened my lid.

Depends on where you are and how severe their test is.

Probably, but at least in this state, you'd have to leave the EGR all hooked up because they check to make sure the EGR is physically working by hooking it up to a vacuum pump. As long as they don't plug in to your diagnostic port you'll probably be ok, but if they do and find that the program has been altered, you're busted. I don't know anyone that's actually happened to, but I'm told it can actually happen.

They don't check crap here. In fact, to check my ti-rods/ball joints, they jacked up the center of the car so all the joints they were testing were under tension, making the whole check invalid.

I handed the guy a 20, that was the duration of my safety check.
