Progress on the 3.4 swap

Post by Aaron »

Well I've made a bit of progress in the past few days on getting the parts to prepare for my swap, so I figure I'd say so.

I decided firmly on using OBD1.5 94-95 Sequential FI. I bought a Mass Air Flow and a ECU/PCM from a guy off Ebay parting out a 1994 LUMINA. Price was $50. So now all I need is a harness...Wish me luck...

I also bought a Spec Stage III clutch from a guy on Old Europe. It is never opened, never used, and I got it for $50 cheaper, and shipped for free. Pretty excited about that.

In the next month I'd like to get the aluminum flywheel. From here I'm all but ready to start the physical part of the swap, which I'll be doing over X-mas. The only things I need are the mounts, but I'm going to get those once I start bolting the 3.4 in since Steven (Series) and Tritum (Blue Shift) have convinced me to mount it lower, which I guess I'm going to go with. I'll also be building the dual dogbones once the motor is in the car. So as long as I have a few hundred bucks once I start, it should go along fairly well.

Aaron,
IM basically in the same position as you. Maybe we can go through the wiring together. Im gonna use the fiero V6 harness with the dohc plugs and computer. Seems to be the easiest way to go according to "darth/sinister fiero".

Im a little lost as where the dohc harness/ computer interfaces with the fiero. I mean...I dont need gauges or anything. So why the hell cant i take the whole damn engine / harness / pcm and feed it B+ and fire it up. But we will see.

PS - Wll should move this to tech

A/C compressor control and the ignition/starter switch come to mind.

you have to tie the power from the alternator back into the system, you said you don't need any gauges - but to be street legal you would (atleast in america)

thats most of what it is - ignition/gauges/power distribution

I won't have A/C either.

I'm not doing wiring, Erik is. My thoughts were that he was going to use both the DOHC and the 2.8l harness to create one, that plugs into the DOHC, and into the firewall. I still need the gauges and such.

This thread probably won't get very technical until I start pulling the 2.8l and bolting the 3.4 up.

Doesnt he charge like 250 bucks for it? It looks SUPER easy Aaron. Seriously, i think you could do it. Im doing mine and I rewired my 84 for V6 efi.

took my 3 evenings about 2 hours each time to make my harness - and that included a complete re-pinning of the for ecm connectors to match the TGP ecm

I think you all overestimate my wiring capabilities.

If the plug fits, that's where it must go. No C233 bullshit, because that sounds like French to me.

I'll consider it, but Goddamn it looks hard.

I take it you don't stay in Oklahoma for the summer. Or pretty much any month between May and October.

I guess I'm a pussy, I went without AC for about a year in OKC. Not fun.

Anyway, hope to see you have everything together soon. :thumbleft:

Wow, nice post Stimpy!

^I'm guessing your in the middle of "therapy," hehehehe...lol

No I don't stay in OK during the summer, and even if I did I'd opt for no A/C. It'd end up pissing me off, but for now not having it is alleviated belt routing, weight, and a lot of electronics.

hey donk, your not gonna have an easy time using the harness I sent you. the one rule dohcfiero.com says is to not cut the entire c100 connector off. oops.

bah thats bullshit - I cut all my connectors off with as long of leads as possible and labeled each lead - then put the similar labels together.. and taped it up into a bundle.. tada wiring harness
