Fully detailed my 88GT

Post by Aaron »

My friend that details cars for a living out in Cali came out to CO for Thxgiving, and we spent the past 2-3 days detailing my car. It looks better than it ever has or I ever thought it could. Although the paint job isn't very good (Better than Maaco, but not GM), the paint looks great. Most every small scratch int he car is no longer visible. And although none of you know, there were a lot on the passenger side. Like driving it through bushes sort of.

So here are the pics:

What all did you do to it? Little cold up there for a claybar treatment, I'd think.

It's surprisingly easy to wind up spending a couple of days detailing. I would have thought you would have gotten the wheel well liners cleaned up though. I wound up painting mine with trim paint after sanding off the road residue. Looks so much better.

Did you get the engine cleaned up as well? Come on man, lets see some results! :thumbleft:

Agreed. Wheel wells make a huuuugeeee difference, especially on a car that isn't lowered. Aaron's don't look too dirty though.. at least not like mine :uhoh:
That's some MAJOR orange peel going on in some of those panels. Dang!
But it looks good overall. I hope you did the same to the engine and front compartment..

No we did not have time to get to the underhood, underdecklid, or wheel wells. I'll do those over X-mas break myself though.

The major orange peel is a result of the repaint it got after the accident. It is odd, because some panels are pretty bad, others aren't. So either the painter was really inconsitent, or some panels didn't get repainted.

Also looking very deeply through the paint we can see the marks of a DA sander on a couple panels, leading me to believe it has been in a wreck after the big wreck. But they could also have come from the repaint after the big wreck. It isn't too big of a deal, we would have color sanded some of the orange peel out, but it is just a single stage application with no clear coat, so the chances of going through are too great. We also spent a few hours polishing the tailights.

We did a 4 stage polish, wax, and sealer using professional Megauir's products (Only available from certain paint shops). The stuff is expensive and hard to find. If this was a customer's car, the full detail cost would have been around $800-$1000, but that'd include the interior (What little there is), and the wheel wells and such.

Heh, and not a single lumina to be seen. What gives? I figured Aaron's place would have 2 or 3 laying around. :thumbleft:

Nice car Aaron, all you need are some rims and lowering springs.

My Dad took the Luminorz out to California for a week. And there is only 1. But I probably have enough parts to build another from scratch.

Working on the rims/suspension, but I want to do the engine swap first.

It does look good tho. Better than all the other pics I've seen of your car.
I've got some zaino lying around here I've been wanting to use. I never have enough time.

If I paid $100 for a detail job and they didn't do under my hood or wheel liners, I'd be pissed. $800 better have that fucker ready for the Concours d'Elegance.

We NEVER go under the hood of cars. It is just asking for problems. For liability reasons, the hood stays closed.

And $800 on a car like a Fiero, and I guarantee your car would be perfect, and the best looking paint in Fiero land. Trust me, after the work we do to the cars, you can see every dime of 800 dollars. And that is why our customers keep having us do the cars.

Nice looking GT, cleaning up my fiero has always been some fun times. I love working on a six pack and spending an hour or two cleaning everything on it.
Best part is when your all done... Hands are all waxy and the car is perfect... You take it out and fucking haul ass around like a victory lap haha

Too bad mines in storage right now, with a bunch of shit wrong with it :mumum: .

Ah well, once this winter bullshit is gone the fun will start again.
