Head Compatibility

Post by wolken »

OK I changed a head on my 84 Fiero because I thought it was warped, car ran fine before just overheated all the damned time.

Anyway I put a 86 head on an 84 motor (L4). Anyone see a problem with this? After bolting everything down and hooking it all back up it doesnt so much run right anymore any ideas? Is the head not compatible? I can get it to start and it sounds roughly like a dirtbike. It wont stay running.

Thanks

Did you check the head over before putting it in?

Did you lash the valves properly?

First thing I'd do is check your timing (because it's easy to goof up), then check your compression. :thumbleft:

Yeah, check the valve lash. Did that wrong on my 3.4. Is it smoking?

there is no valve lash on an L4, you just torque them to spec.
