Sweet. He really did it up. I read down to the subjective impressions so far. Does he mention what density the foam is?

handi-foam is a ~1.75lbper cubic foot closed cell foam
thats the minimum density that is considered closed cell because it is about 15% open cell.

If you do this i'd recommend getting something closer to 2.0lb or 2.4lb flotation foam used for boats, insulation and roofing

That re-inspires my interest in doing this to one of my cars... or a whole lot of my cars. His descriptions of better feedback and controllability are especially intriguing.

Once I figure out everywhere to squirt the stuff and develop a reasonably effacacious way of measuring chassis stiffness, I have enough chasses to try 4#, 8# and 16# foam in them to see if the difference is worth the weight gain. I wouldn't mind adding 50# to the car for a 25% increase in torsional stiffness.

They recommended the 8lb foam as the most effective. Denser foams are getting into rapidly diminishing returns.

I've read this on NICO and on a Supra forum! I think it's been proven time and time again. It's one of the upgrades on my list :thumbleft:

Sources for the foam they used:

or at Grainger (this one is the II-12 kit, smaller capacity vs. the II-22 kit, credit goes to Epstein, he found this at Grainger)

what's a "board foot" and how does it relate to volume?

In a lumber yard it would be a one foot square board 1" thick.

okay so their kit is ~2 cubic feet... :thumbleft:

since I bought a spray foam insulation machine I am buying this stuff both .5# and 2# foams by the 55 gallon drum. sprays in at about 150* and hardens fully in about 30 seconds.

This would be good for those going targa correct?

Probably not enough for that.

I mean in addition to bracing underneath the car. At this point, I'm pretty sure I want to go with a targa top on my car so I'm looking into anything to add the extra needed stiffness to the frame.
