He's got to do a whole lot of shennanigans in order to get his 17 year old flywheel design to work with the new deeper bellhousing that the G6 transmission has.

On the bright side, it does have a deep enough bellhousing for a three disk Tilton.
But it plugs right up to a 2.8, 3.6, N*, etc, right.... What clutch/flywheel would u use?

I don't imagine the trnny mounts are the same

Who comes up with these shitty ridiculous gear ratios? Dam.
Engineers.... and engineers suck :blah5:

Closer ratios for road racing.......but mostly, more torque handling for more buildability of engines over the available N*'s, LT's, LS's, etc

Fortunately they don;t make a lot of those

If a car tops out at 140 in 4th, why would it need two almost identical gears above that? The closeness would be better spent in the lower gears where the car spends more of its time.

The strength limitation is actually first gear. A taller (numerically lower) one would be stronger.

Right, agreed with teh identical ratios. We have Getrags as our best available tranny, so even this looks really neat, but as compared to the T-56 RWD tranny, it is shit.

Just get 13" tires then :blah5:

Yea, that makes sense, but as you said, this tranny is what, twice as strong as a getrag? And it probably shifts cleaner too.

As it sits right now Chris West is messing with the NSX trannsmission. I tried doing a little bit of research but came up shy of any details like those I got on the F40 trans, and dad was a lil bit busy at the shop yesterday to really answer any questions.... but what does it breakdown to as far as advantages of using the NSX over the G6 trans???

I mean, the F40 damn near bolts right the hell up, so lets rock this biatch!

Well for one thing, the NSX transmission has a limited-slip differential....
another thing is it doesn't shift like a stick in a barrel of potatoes.

As a guess, I'd say the ratios suck on thne NSX considering they spin them high....prolly suck for a pushrod V8

From what I've read, the G6 box shifts very well. It has triple cones on 1 & 2, doubles on 3 & 4 and singles only on 5 & 6.

The 5 speed NSX ratios are actually fairly nice. The 1-2 split is 0.64, which compares favorably to the Getrag's 0.59 and the F40's 0.54.

If it were me and I was goddam tired of blowing up transmissions, I could care less if it shifts rough or I couldn't get an LSD - and I'm willing to bet there is either one currently out there or a kit in the works.

And I'm not fond of the amount of material that needs to be removed from the chassis for the NSX to fit, and as far as the ratios, it's not GM engineers, it's German engineers that chose such a close combination.

All I am saying is that all the neg's for using the F40 mean nothing to me so long as I have a gearbox that wont come apart from spirited driving

That's what impresses me with the G6, it handles power, has closer ratios, and shifts smoothly.

Hw's the final drive ratio on the NSX?

Quaife makes a nonslip differential for the f40. It sells for 520 pounds which converts to about $1000. That's more than twice what I paid for my trans, but it's good to know that the option is there.

My bad, he was saying that the Cobalt SS axles fit the G6 transmission and the Fiero hubs.

No shit? I'm sure the tube length is way off, right?

Not sure, I'd have to dig up his thread. Seemed he was able to put together a working swap with an Ecotec, Fiero 4spd, Cobalt SS axles and Fiero hubs, if I remember right.

Will, would there be any real benefit to the tilton clutch? I haven't priced them but they sure look expensive.
