Quick update. It's all back together. Drove it to lunch today at work. Tomorrow I'll probalby make the rest of the exhaust since I have a ton of exhaust pipe left from when I made my Fiero exhaust. It's 2.5", but it's better than the stock 2" pipe that my 3" DP goes into now. I still need a clutch for it but money is tight right now. Hopefully work picks up soon.

act 2600 isn't bad for a daily driver, just make sure you shim the pivot ball, and possibly go with a longer slave rod. id also recommend the fidanza flywheel. imho i'd shy away from the gm maft set up. it is practically useless as a tuning aid. they claim the new version is better, but im not a believer. i would go with the previously mentioned dsmlink. 550s should do the trick on a 16g. if you go too big on injectors and try to tune around them with an safc you'll start running into crazy timing problems and knock. if you go with a 255 fuel pump you'll need an afpr. the 1g bov should do fine for you. if you really start cranking the boost you might want to think about crushing it. god i miss my old gsx somedays, then i see what kind of shape its in now, and don't feel so bad. that was one long run on sentence, but yeah, have fun.

You'll need billet clutch fork with the 2600. The spring is so stiff that the factory stamped steel one can bend. It's the original leg press clutch.
My friend steven has DSMLink AND GM MAF + MAFt setup in blow-through and it works transparently. Very nice setup.
The only problem with it is that some moron who designed the MAFt decided to clamp the IAT signal at 80 degrees. This deprives the ECM of proper IAT informatio for good timing calculations and it means that you've got to retune the thing as the weather changes. WTF? This is fuel injection, not fucking webers... So if you use a MAFt, get a separate IAT sensor and install right next to your MAF, then just ignore the IAT wire from the MAFt.

if you go with a maft, i would at the least mod it so that you have a real baro reading too. that always bugged the shit out of me. yes, the billet fork is a good idea, but i ran without one on mine for quite some time. same with two of my friends on their cars.

Baro reading? I'm not as up as I might be on MAFt's... does it give a baro reading? I thought that the DSM computer, and by extention DSMLink, didn't give a dam about barometric pressure...

the maft gives a fixed baro reading of .95 or .96. somewhere in that ballpark i think. i haven't had mine for a while and at this point im too lazy to look it up. i just know that it doesn't vary. dsmlink is used in conjuction with the stock mafs, so yes, it has baro, air temp, and airflow.

I wasn't aware that it looked at baro... I thought it was pure airflow.

Clamping the barometric pressure at a fixed value is just as stupid as clamping the IAT at a fixed value.

Crappy picture I took today:

The next mods to it will be a front mount intercooler and a clutch. The stock clutch does not like anything above 18psi.

My mods so far:
Big 16G
3" Apexi Down Pipe.\
2.5" exhaust because i had some pipe around. Will do 3" sometime.
Turbo XS Dual stage boost controller
Magnicore plug wires

How about an engine shot? I've been working on cleaning it up. I still need to paint the heat shield on the exhaust manifold.

Just posting to subscribe to this thread...Nice car, although I personally hated the one that I had to drive for a couple months. Just not me I guess, but no one can deny how fast they can be with a little bit of money.

holy stock looking engine bay. don't see many of those on dsms. even beater ones. 18psi eh? no fuel mods on a 16g. better watch yourself. do you have any gauges yet? boost, egt? do you have a datalogger set up? if you plan to start modding it your going to need something to tune by. not just the seat of your pants.

The 550cc injectors are on the way. I have a boost gauge. I need to get a EGT gauge and a Wideband o2. Still trying to figure out what I should get for tuneing. Dont know if I want a SAFC or something else?! I really need a clutch too. Oh, and the radiator decided to start leaking where it's rotted today too. :cussing:

The one I drove didn't pull very hard below 4000rpm in any gear. Well, it didn't pull at all below 3500. I mean, NO TORQUE. People bitch about having no low end in a 3.4 DOHC or N*, wow, they seriiously need to get stuck behind the wheel of a TSi or STi for a month. Then they will love the bigger DOHC motors.

The STi actually isn't that bad, the extremely close ratio 6-speed helps a lot, but it is still a total dog anywhere south of 3000.

and that's with two and a HALF litres.
My friend Steven's 2G DSM has a T3/T4 and has NOTHING until the turbo spools.

I know!!!

That is my biggest like about the 3.4. It has soooo much more torque below 4000 than the TSi, that the TSi gets annoying to drive. You have to ride the clutch so much just to get it moving, then it just bucks. Really rough drivetrain.

But then they start saying all this, "Once my turbo spools, you'll eat my dust." Fact is, a stock TSi is gonna get walked by the 3.4. It has more low end, and more high end. But, I'm also talking stock Talons, we all know there are some quick ones out there.

knowing how to drive is a good start.

Time to bump this up I guess. I fixed the radiator yesterday. Today I installed the 550 injectors and installed the other half of my exhaust. The exhauts made a huge difference. Car is getting faster. :bootyshake: It's clutch time now.

On a side note, I might be taking the Fiero to a dyno day. I'll be sure to post the sheets and hopefully a video if it works out. :thumbleft:

I went to a yard the other day and saw a very nice 1st gen TSI in the parking lot. They look very good with a nice set of rims and lowered down, I was impressed.

The fact they are so easy to make into a 12 second car is definitly a bonus.
