It is basically laser cut aluminum so thin it feels like paper. Imagine stickers, that is basically what it is. They peel off the sheet, then after alcohol cleaning and adhesion promotor, are applied to the dash pieces.

So they are backed with an adhesive or do you have to brush some contact cement on?

They are backed with an adhesive, much like stickers. They also come with adhesive promoters, a pad that wipes on and helps the stickers attach better to the dash pieces.
