I put my alternator where the factory AC would be, for weight distribution and to keep the belt short and compact all to one side of the motor. But if someone is running AC they would not be able to do that, and I did have to jump through some hoops to get my belt routing situation better with a different tensioner, and some spacers for the pulley on the tensioner. Phantomformula made a low mount for his on the other side of the motor, but it results in less belt wrap around the crank pulley as he configured it in a way where the belt exits from the crank on both sides of the motor. And I think he has had some troubles with that. there is also the Lucerne crossover, but I think there is clearancing of the hinge boxes required.

I think that in terms of a marketable "kit" solution that anyone with some mechanical aptitude could buy and use to install one of these into a Fiero, that a slightly lower mounted alternator would work the best, allow use of the factory tensioner in factory location and AC, oem-ish routing of the belt, no decklid notching, and it could even be tied into a torque strut mount. Just my 2 cents for when you get there from my own experiences and research.

So the factory exhaust crossover doesn't clear the 4 spd transmission slave arm, nor does it clear the shift cables. So an alternate routing of the exhaust will have to be devised.

We used a 68inch belt with the pulleys set up this way
