PCV Valve. Can I remove it?
I was messing around with my Fiero today and was trying to see if my old K&N filter from my 05 Canyon would fit on my Fiero using the rubber elbow from the Fiero that goes to the air cleaner, and it does after I removed the air cleaner.Anyway I noticed while looking in my throttlebody a bunch of oil in it and the rubber aircleaner elbow.I checked my PCV valve and it seemed to be working but I think its sucking to much air/oil from the crankcase or rockercover.Do I have to have it? Can I put one of those little airfilter lookin things where the PCV valve goes in?Its a V-6 by the way.

pcv valve isn't the culprit there on a stock emissions system. that oil is from the unfiltered hard line that comes off the front valve cover and runs to the intake hose. the pcv sucks into the bottom of the upper intake, so removing it won't stop that "problem". there's a baffle inside that front valve cover which is supposed to stop the oil from getting sucked up, but it's an imperfect design like most things on the fiero.

Yes you can
Its a spectre from pep boys, like $7, I had to cut down the stem and use a hammer to get it in haha, but it works. The edelbrock ones won't work, I tried remember to plug the intake manifold or you get a NASTY vac leak.
NO I DON"T HAVE THE GREEN TUBE STILL, it just demonstrates how I did it. I used some brake hose or something and ran a breather out to under the vent so I didn't have oil vapor pumping over the ypipe.

I bought a MR.Gasket Air breather for the pcv groment and now I know what you ment by not to tall.It was way to big.But I had another one that was smaller and I took out the pcv valve and trimmed up the rubber around the breather and it fit perfect. Now If you or someone else could show me exactly what I need to buy to plug up the intake manifold hole thats for the pcv valve I would be most greatful. :thumbleft: Do I need to take off the upper plenum? Is it a pain in the arse? Is the grommet on the other valve cover the same as the pcv valve grommet? Thanks for everyones help on this little project!CincinnatiFiero wrote:I used some plastic screw I found and electrical tape, the ghetto way. Best way would be to pull out the brass tube and screw in a bolt to seal off the hole.

Please read.
Well I came home today and cleaned and replaced my dash bulbs because the check engine bulb was out and I wanted to check my codes because my car has been running really rich and gettin crappy mpgs.Well i checked it and I got a code 23 which is the MAT sensor which I have unhooked because I removed the airbox and couldnt get the old sensor out.Well after that I started on replacing my pcv valve with the air breather and I was able to use the rubber elbow that comes out of the intake manifold and goes to the pcv valve,I stuck a big bolt in the elbow and I was able to put it back on without taking off the upper intake manifold.Well I start my car up while putting the elbow back on so I can use the suction of the intake to help me get it back on,While doiung this I noticed my car running like its missing and that the whole distributer is able to turn left and right and go up and down about a quarter inch. Now I don't know exactly why my car is missing. At first when the MAT sensor was unplugged it idled and run with no miss. And I dont know if its because the distributer is loose or maybe after I checked the codes it figured out that the MAT sensor was not readable and set off a code. Any suggestions?
Update.
Well I had to buy a new distributor because the one that is in it now the plate that the control module sits on and the distributor cap screws to is broken and you can turn it and the cap left, right,up and down. And I think my fuel injectors are leaking which is why the car smells so bad while its running so I'll be looking for some fuel injectors. And I figured out that I need a 10mm 12point socket which I do have to remove those pretty chrome bolts on the upper plenum.

Re: Update.
You may find that only the injector o-rings are leaking, not the injectors themselves. It may not hurt to replace the injectors, but if you are on a budget, or want to save money for other potential repairs, I'd just start with the o-rings. Also, the cold start injector pipe (the small pipe on the opposite end of the rail from the fuel lines) has a tendency to leak. If you take the upper plenum off and have an assistant turn the key on (not start the car, just turn the key to the run position) you can inspect the fuel rail for leaks.SGT.ROCK wrote:And I think my fuel injectors are leaking which is why the car smells so bad while its running so I'll be looking for some fuel injectors.
Re: Update.
Thank You. But now my problem is after I put my new Distributor and cap on the original miss I had didnt go away.We traced it to the number 4 cylinder and the plug wire was sparking and the wire was snug on the plug.So we were thinking the injector was stuck open or something. So after I took the up plenum of I grabbed the number 4 injector and it came off like it was not even attached. So now I need to figure out if that was my engine miss problem and are my injectors still leaking :scratch:FieroJimmy wrote:You may find that only the injector o-rings are leaking, not the injectors themselves. I ended up pulling the whole rail out and I think my injectors are junk. Four of the caps and the black O-rings stayed in the EFI ports, some of the caps were shattered. So my question now is if I go to a salvage yard what GM cars use them same kind of injectors as the Fiero.Would 3800 injectors work, and maybe give me a little performance boost? Thanks.Xanth wrote:Just turn the key to "run" or jump the fuel pump on with the fuel rail up and watch if the injectors leak.
Anything 2.8 3.1 3.4 OHV that's multiport should be a drop in. some of the guys on here are running ford injectors, OE bosch style fit the fuel rail and intake just have to splice wiring harnesses. I saw someone on here talking about Quad4 injectors as a possible upgrade replacement because they atomize fuel differently, but don't know what you'd have to do to make them work.
