Which one? Turbo DOHC or Crazy NOS Pushrod.

Post by donk_316 »

Yeah I know I asked this a looong time ago in a Galaxy far, far away but

IF you had ALL the parts to build a turbo DOHC or ALL the parts to build a High compression nitrous fed firebreather of a pushrod...

Which way would you go....and WHY??? oooh...aaah

Im really having issues here as I have both piles and both engines sitting here.

I know for sure what ever I build is gonna be a 3.0L destroked dohc or pushrod. Cant justify buying the crank and then leaving it in the corner...like the T4b 60-1, Turbonetics deltagate, NOS, Apex-i SAFC2, AVC-R, dry sump, soon to be 3" forged crank, 6" rods and so on.

OR

Say fuck it and keep the 3.4L as it runs strong or buy something else...or sell the whole god damn thing.

Sell the 3.4 and the pushrod parts.

do the turbo dohc. Much more potential in the long run.

Look at the guy on 60 degree. 325 whp on 11 psi (according to gauge) but 7-8 on the datalog.

That in a fiero with the huge powerband of the dohc would allow your car to absolutely rip. I have only 200 whp and I am beating cars with 300 hp.

You would prob have a low 12 sec car. And trust me that is fast. There are a few LS1's around here spraying and they run low 12's high 11's and thats fucking moving.

You dont' even need to make a lot of power with that motor to be fast because the powerband is so long. Hell I just posted the kill of the 3rd Gen Iroc, I realed his ass in and put a car on him once I hit third gear. And my powerband isnt' as long as the dohc would be.

Why not turbocharge the pushrod ?

I've got one up on ya right now. stock 3.7 inch bore block and a 2.8L crank. ;)

Someday I'll get back to mod'ing the sunbird and actually get it back on the road..... someday...

3.1L DOHC TURBO

You have the parts, the dohc is a nice flowing engine, 10psi and call it a day.

I don't agree, but I'd be more than happy if my Fiero could do that.

I don't understand everyone's desire to have a destroked motor. There is no point. I have personally driven a 383 stroker to 7300rpm, with 2 valve heads and a carb up top. The DOHC already revs freely to 7000, and with very little mods will run to 8, making most the power up top. The only thing you are doing when destroking is losing horsepower and torque.

You get a stronger crank shaft, which is desirable for some applications.

While the 3.4's rod/stroke ratio is not bad by most metrics, the 6" rods + 76mm crank give an absolutely outstanding R/S ratio.

Anyway... Turbo DOHC or N2O Pushrod?

Umm...

Turbo N2O DOHC. Weld the pushrods together into a piece of modern art.

IF you had an Aluminum block and heads, a turbo pushrod would be a unique, and impressive engine, but I guess as far as power goes the DOHC would be a better choice.

I personally like pushrods, just something about old technology gets me going, but I guess if your looking for power then the more modern approach would most likely be a better bet.

Huh. I think my ACT is a bit higher than your's, and that is supposed to parallel your IQ scores..

Pushrods and Carbs are the best for max power cuz it's what they use in NASCAR. Duh.

I think it could cut a low 16, but it doesn't feel like it could do 15s.
