Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
Is 305 whp good in today's word? No. Great on a stock 2.8, if that's what it is. I doubt it. But relativity being what it is, this is a weaksauce dyno.

Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
Most modern cars that dyno 305 to the wheels are 700+# heavier than a Fiero... Even a 370Z is in the 3300# range.
The engines pushed 115ish to the wheels stock, so 305 to the wheels is close to triple stock output... It's a good build. I wouldn't have bothered, but it's a good build.

300whp in a fiero is quick and fun. Not like I know, I only had a 280whp N*....

Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
Not a lot by today's standards but good enough to run 12s in the 110 mph area. Good enough to beat 95% of cars on the road.
Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
300hp is "quick". But it's no monster.

Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
600hp isn't a monster anymore. I'd say monsters are in the 800whp and up range. That will at least get you above most of the exotics.
Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
No kidding. My BMW at 470whp is feeling boring.

Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
Thanks mostly to traction control

Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
Which can be disabled at the touch of a button. The traction control on my E39 and E64 is godly. Turns a RWD car into FWD in the snow and ice. One button and back to the basics. I'd consider an LS swap if it didn't mean losing all of the standard BMW logic.

Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
It doesn't, necessarily.

There are a couple of efforts out there to decode BMW CANBUS to use with LS controllers.

Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
I've read all of that already, and there's no definitive way to get all of the BMW stuff talking to the GM computers, or use the stock computer to control the LS. My sunroof in the E39 has more feedback than most GM body control modules. All of this adds up to a really well built vehicle with complete control over the various parameters. Aaron could switch his traction control off, but I imagine he doesn't want to crash in the rain.... like that spinning Mustang.
Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
I like having the different levels. I leave it on in foul weather, and it cuts in before I can even tell the wheels were spinning. Or I can turn TC off, but leave DTC on, and it lets the wheels spin if I'm going more or less straight, but cuts power if the car gets sideways. Or I can turn it all off if I feel like dying.

Re: 2.8 turbo dyno
305 WHP and 370-something Wtorque out of a boat anchor 2.8 is pretty impressive. I'm not sure why anyone here is trying to compare it to a real car and modern technology....
Would I try to build a 2.8? No, but props to that dude, I bet it's a fun little car.
