Do you/Would you smoke?

I'm kind of curious about what you guys think of weed...

Do you smoke? (No need to ask DiggityBiggity I guess...)

And if not - would you try it if given the chance? (Doesn't have to be smoked if you're not inclined - brownies.)

And would you say it's better (either for you, or for others, or in terms of stigma) or worse than other common drugs like alcohol or tobacco?

:blah5:

I do on occasion. Works out to once or twice in any given 3-month period.

There are all sorts of nutjobs that say that weed is dangerous, can spark all kinds of trouble etc etc etc.

It's no worse than booze.... And you don't get a headache the next day.

The only time weed is dangerous is if you're driving. I've met so many people that drive stoned, and they all say they can drive just fine... But I've watched 'em straight. Only one person that I've seen in like 10 was anything but slow and deliberate. Much like a drunk.

As long as you are doing it in your basement, or out at the cabin/campsite/whatever, and you don't have any responsibilities at hand, it's harmless fun.

Same as drinking.

But, you can abuse it, and there is a LOT of problems with addiction. Remember, the chemical portion of any addiction only lasts a week or two. The rest is purely psychological. And people LIKE to get high. You can hook yourself just like that.

Same as drinking.

I guess the point is that it's no more or less wrong than having a half-dozen beers and getting goofy.

But I will say this: I've met LOTS of mean, MEAN drunks.

I've never met a person who turns mean or violent when stoned. Usually they are happy and somewhat silly. Occasionally depressed or sleepy. But usually happy.

*edit*

I might add that brownies are t3h fuck1ng AW35oM3! I burn out WAY too fast when I smoke... Chowing-down? Wicked smooth, and I'm high and happy for HOURS.

Here's a question: Has anyone else ever tried to have sex stoned? It's weird... I feel as if I'm falling when I do, and I can never finish 'cos then I start laughing at the tickly falling feel, and I have to gasp for breath... which sets the woman off... Then we generally cuddle up and pass out laughing.

That's kinda my thought... What makes one plant (marijuana) any worse than another plant (tobacco), or one intoxicant better than another, like in the case of alcohol?

Seems like there's this double standard here.

anything in excess is bad

and its been linked to stunted emotional development in young kids (teens)

but properly used i think its less harmful than alchohal

I would argue that ALL of the problems associated with drugs (crime, addiction etc) are self-induced by the society.

And the Netherlands are a SHITTY example of legalization.

It's legal to possess, and traffic, but it's illegal to produce? wtf...

So, the crime families are still making money off it, but selling to the government? Kee-rist.

If I had my way, anyone would be allowed to have a few private plants (say, no more than an even dozen?) for personal use.

Mass-Grow would be illegal, but you could still buy from licensed outlets. Possession of under an ounce or two would be fine, but large quantities would be illegal.

Basically make it easy for Joe-Smoke to grow a few plants and stay out of trouble. This would undercut a huge portion of the drug market's profits, while making it illegal enough for the cops to still bust them.

Hell, let people keep a coca bush or two. Doesn't really matter. Keep tabs on any kind of mass-production or refining operations, but allow the average consumer to build his/her own fix.

Be like cutting the blood supply off from a tumor. It'll gradually wither up and die out.

The big ticket drugs are more complicated, though... They are MUCH more destructive, and chemically addictive. They would have to be strictly regulated. But again, give the addicts a way to acquire that DOESN'T feed the criminal element, and the problem will gradually fade.

Just so we're clear, this kind of "fading" would probably take a generation or two to pan out. There would be no immediate, IMMEDIATE effect, unless at the same time as legalizing, every law-enforcement branch came down HARD on the industry...

Actually, that'd be a damn good idea:

1)Have the cops scope--but not move in on-- a bunch of large-scale grow ops.
2)Legalize the stuff
3)Start supplying legal outlets with half-decent weed (seizures, maybe?)
4)A couple weeks later, when initial sales start to plateau, make as many high-profile raids as possible, at the same time (or else space them out evenly to spread the damage)

voila! Instant market reversion. A black-market shortage of sufficient magnitude would well-and-properly fuck up the drug trade.

Which is why it will never happen that way. Any problem that takes longer to fix than the term of a given elected official doesn't get tackled in any meaningful intelligent way.

Which is ironic because whenever politicians are forced to justify strange or outright unethical behavior, they justify their actions by calling out critics and lambasting them for not thinking ahead?

Anyone see V for Vendetta?

"People fear their government, when it's the government that should fear the people."

I don't fear any single politician. But I'm terrified at how short-sighted and STUPID the vast, vast majority seem to become when they hit office.

Goddamn...

Clarity is all well and good to talk about.

But it loses it's luster when you can actually see what's out there.

Look as far as your newspaper to see just how beautiful clarity and reason can be.

Nope. Have not, will not.

I know what it looks/smeels like, and that's enough to turn me away.

Not that I'd try to persuade anyone to use a substance, no matter what I feel the benefit to me is, but I highly doubt that you've seen anything close to good weed. The last stuff I had smelled like Juicy Fruit and just looked like plump fluffy nuggets. I can't imagine anyone who you would know having access to anything but Mexican Stress smashbud. Dealers tend not to deal with people who like to run their yap.

Now, talk about something disgusting, smell a bar at 2 am.Stale beer and cigarette smoke smells like pickled ass.
