Hey there im Levis ( cryone ) evil little brother and i have a couple questions that i hope can be answered here.
I have a 2003 vw GTI VR6 and I recently purchased this turbo kit for it
http://www.eiptuning.com/eip/vw_a4_24v_ ... age_2.html
With the different upgrades and everything else I picked out it cost me in total about $7000 U.S.. Levi thinks this price is crazy and although I agree, after alot of looking around, it dosent really get any cheaper than this. So anyway I still have the option of stopping my order, but as of now I have no other options really available for my car.. Any helpfull feedback would be very much appreciated.
For any of you who know Vw's, nothing is cheap for them, so I dont want to hear about your brothers friends sister's cousin who bought a turbo for $2000 for his civic..
Thanks

Sale the V dub and buy a fiero! j/k. Have you contacted anyone about building you a custom turbo. It might be cheaper to go that route, plus you will know exactly what your getting.

Well, $7k US is like $8k Canadian. For that price you could build the kit yourself and build your bottom end for boost.
Lower compression forged pistons would be under $1k and would be much better than a thicker head gasket.
If it were me, I would shop e-bay and look around. Buy a GT35R ball bearing turbo, big intercooler, aluminum pipes for the intake and intercooler, silicone hose adapters etc etc. For 8k you could have the BEST of everything instead of someone elses kit. You can also have a standalne or piggyback ecu instead of having them reflash your stock pcm.
Since I know you are mechanically inclined, I would say to build it yourself and you can use the people on this board to help you with any questions you have.

Yes i have thought about that, but i've seen alot of "Custom Tubos" around this area that are just a pile of crap... The thing i like about eip is they have put alot of time and research into there products and have built a quality system.. id rather pay 7 grand for something i know is quality then 5 for something that could be a total waist of money.....

On the flip side, it would be good to have a kit where all the work is done for you. Don't quite know how "bolt in" their kit is in terms of mounts for the intercooler and other small parts.

Another good point but i was never planning on installing there low compression head gasket.. its always been my plan to build the bottom end before the turbo goes on.. So basically by the time im totally done everything, i will have $10,000 into the engine which will only be giving me a max of 450hp.. dosent sound great but thats why im on here asking you guy's to help me out with some options

I wish you would have posted this before you bought from EIP. Those dudes are scammers. I have done business with them once. Thats all it took.

I've heard lots of different things about them.. some bad, but mostly good. Lots of the guy's on my dub forums have had good experiences with them. And like i said, im at the point right now where i can still call off my order..

Thats because its for the MK3( 93-99.5) which is a 12v vr6 2002 and up are 24v

MK-I = 1975 to 1984
MK-II = 1985 to 1992
MK-III = 1993 to 1999.5
MK-IV = 1999.5 to 2005.5
MK-V = 2005.5 to currently made models

if you can cancel your order then I would. They are shady people dude. I have heard a lot of bad things about them.
Like them removing performance parts from other peoples cars, to put on their project cars, and putting stock shit back on a customers car without telling them.
EIP is garbage dude.

i would be worried about that if they were doing the work. Not really a concern there i guess.. but i understand where your coming from. the guy's i've talked to tho dislike eip have pretty good reason, but like i said i hear more good than bad.

Personally I would go with a VF engineering supercharger. For the same price, you'll get comperable power as the turbo plus I think VF has a better rep. I've driver in a VF-supercharged R32 and that was one sweet ride.
But besies EIP, I don't know of any other decent turbo kits for the VR6

Why ANYONE would suggest a centrifugal supercharger is beyond me.
You will get comparable power as a turbo, AT REDLINE. But that's it. Sorry, below 3000rpm too. 2500 if he uses a GT35r. But from 3000rpm to 7, the turbo will outperform the supercharger. The only RPM the S/C will even match that of the turbo is at 6500+. Furthermore, the turbocharger runs higher adiabatic efficiences, does not draw nearly the same amounts of power, and souns much cooler. And it's cheaper!!!
If it were my car, I'd do it myself. And the GT35r is not a cheap, or shady unit. It is the best mass produced turbocharger made that fits your size requirements. That's why it costs $1500. Dual ball bearings mean you will spool much faster, have less lag, and it will run at over 80% AE, meaning it heats the air less than a standard turbo.

why couldnt you put your own kit together?
does no one make a turbo header for that engine?
bolt on your own choice of turbo / wastegate / BOV / intercooler / electronics.

Well that's easy, #1 It seems that he is looking for a KIT. Go an try to find another turbo kit for an MKIV VR6. Your only other option for FI is to go super. #2 VF engineering has a far better track record than EIP, plus the VF engineering supercharger gets have been proven to be far more reliable. I haven't seen too many complaints about them. #3 I don't know what this persons goal is for their vehicle, and for daily driving and track, autocross, the supercharger will be much better suited for both these purposes. Plus 350+ whp is useless in an FWD GTI whose chassis already has a number of problems with torque steer and push. I can't inagine tracking a car like that. Bragging about you higher adiabatic efficiences won't mean shit when doing a CaliKid into a corner.
So you can take all of your blabbing about efficiency and how great the GT-series of turbos are and cram it. We already know that you will get better power and efficiency out of those. If he wants to build a kit, then yeah, I would build a turbo kit.

"350+ whp is useless in an FWD GTI"
its deffinatly not usless. I know a guy with the stage 2 system running 11's with slicks.. Videos to prove it as well.. His car is at max psi and produced over 440hp on the dyno, also charts and video to prove that. With the right suspension and tires, you can plant the power pretty damn well. fast track times arnt limited to RWD and AWD vehicles.
I've thought about supercharging but i deffinatly do not want to go that route. Im really thinking about doing my own turbo system now though.

The tracks that I am referring to are the one's with turns in it. I'm not a drag racer. If you want to build a 1/4 monster, then yeah, go BT. You will be able to produce more power, plain and simple. I am then assuming you are building a car for 1/4 mile purposes? If so, I really don't have much more advice to give. I honestly don't know what constitutes a good suspension setup for a FWD drag car.

i'd say the kit looks good - has a warranty.. thats worth something
still seems real expensive but price is always relative to what that power is worth to someone
