4 trailing arms, 2 leading arms - left right braking for stearing - super simple
http://www.cmu.edu/cmnews/extra/060428_crusher.html
its a hybrid - has an electric motor in each wheel hub.. top speed is 26mph
may as well be using pack mules :la:
for the money they spend on these projects i'm unimpressed
now if they can network them together so that a remote command center can control them on a battlefield like a game of Command&Conquer then i might concider being impressed :thumbleft:

The thing can climb a 4-5 foot vertical wall and you are unimpressed?
That thing is badass. 26mph is plenty fast for a vehical with those capabilities.

unimpressed because there is nothing special about it aside from being unmanned.. and applying hybrid tech to simplify the drivetrain
i've seen rockcrawlers climb 8-10 foot walls with the help of a few straps to avoid flipping backwards.. that was cool but they also didn't use millions of dollars in funding

Could they climb the walls at 26 mph? You saw how fast that thing got over pretty much anything.

i grew up next to the test track that APG used off base to test the tanks and humvies.. i'm familiar with how those perform --
and it didn't go up the wall at 26mph it dead stopped at the wall till it was able to get the tread to bite the edge and climb over, same as all the offroaders in jeep wranglers
for the height of the wall... what is the actual size of that thing? unless the wheels are 8' tall that wall wasn't 5'

Are you watching the same video the rest of us are? That concret barrier it went straight up was taller than the front tires, which probably ARE 5 feet in diameter.

going from memory from yesterday would have to watch it again..
still unimpressed for the $,$$$,$$$.$$$
no doubt the top speed is limited by the motors they used in the wheels - most likely setup for maximum torque but limited speed.. a simply planitary gearset in each wheel could fix all that

This thing weighs considerably more than your typical jeep rockcrawler. This thing is amazing. Its made for severe duty and has armor plating.
Lets put armor on a jeep and have both carry a couple thousand pounds of missiles and see which one is better in the field

I think that for a couple million dollars that is a good project, considering it will save some of our troops lives. I wouldn't want to be the enemy though.
