Imagine if we put $300 billion into American cities, and not an illegal occupation?

or put 300 billion into reducing the interest rate on housing, incentives for small businesses, heartland hydroponics programs to start growing sugarcane inplace of corn for alchohal use, or to build an infrastructure of improved public transportation... or wait - can't do that 75% of the money would just to to 20 year "studies" of the environmental impact on the local frog population that may or may not be extinct (tree huggers cost a LOT LOT of tax dollars)

I love nature but pic your freaking battles and stop waisting my money!

A LOT of potato chips and M&Ms, for starters! :thumbleft:

FYI, $300B would pay to send about EVERY child from a poor family to college....

You could do that... or...

You could just make me really, really happy. :thumbleft:

How about using it to rebuild N.O., and incorporate stronger dikes. :thumbleft:

How about building solar power satellites and spending more that $275 million on fusion research per year. Must be a reason but what could it be...

screw research... just pave nevada with solar cells. Bam. Energy problems solved.

This government is playing fear against the bell curve beautifully.

What I mean is, they know they can scare just enough people with real or imaginary threats. The first thing scared people do is resist change--they don't want any more uncertainty in their lives than the already have.

Anyone notice how all of the terrorist warnings magically vanished right after the presidential election--and now they're coming back now that we're within 90 days of another election?

I'm hoping the sheeple have learned something in the past 6 years, but there's one little buried statistic that will probably keep the republicans in power:

Everyone thinks all politicians are corrupt except their own.

You watch. The encumbents will get re-elected despite we all think they're corrupt. Rove knows it. They're concentrating on local elections (and voter disenfranchisement laws) to keep themselves in business.

Nevada = 286,367 sq. km. in area
That's 286,367,000,000 sq. meters
Full sun at noon on Earth = 1200 watts sq. M
That's 343 Terawatts and change assuming 100% efficiency. For 8 hours or so per day. (unless I screwed up the math)

US consumption

"It costs $300 per square meter now for crystalline solar cells. We think we can get this down to $30 a square meter," he said. Michael McGehee, an assistant professor at Stanford in materials science and engineering
So it would only cost 8.5 quadrillion dollars. :(

Nuclear power plant costs 0.52c/kwh, so, for $300B, that would be... 1,560,000,000kwh = 1.56 terawatts... dammit
