Went to the 24hr event at Continental Tire here in Charlotte. It was a good opportunity since its the first time I've done any autox in this car. I didn't prep the car at all, just took it as its daily driver condition and had some fun. I didn't do all that great, but I learned a lot, met a bunch of people and had a good time.. Heres some pics..

I don't, I got to school here. If you know any other events in the area, lmk. I don't have shit to do around here but study and beat on this car.

What have you done so that you have to run in SM2?? Motor swap?

3800sc. I don't even really know how they class, I don't know much about autocrossing. Like I said this was my first one so I was basically out there to get a feel for the event and get some seat time. The car has a bunch of basic mods and when i asked one of the other guys there, he said I would run in SM2. I wasn't going to be competitive anyways, so I just said OK. I don't know if the 88 cradle swap makes a difference, and either did he, but I ended up in SM2 cause of the 3800 basically.

with turbos or engine swaps
I guess you could see a B18 powered Del Slo out there as well.

Hmm...

I thought SM was street prepared suspension/chassis/interior with engine rules from the modified class?

What would put a Porsche in SM? Engine swap?
I guess an engine swap to something that wasn't offer by GM would do it for a Vette.

With the cradle swap, you should be in EMod. Welcome to my world. It is a tough class, but that just makes it better when you do well. The nice thing is that once you are in the mod classes, most anything goes.

The thing is, nobody cares what class you are in till you start beating them.

Wow! Your car looks great! 87 coupe? What mods do you have to put you in Emod?
What does that wraparound spoiler come from?

Probably '88 cradle swap, since that's what he mentioned.

Yes, the cradle swap puts the car in E-mod because of the cuts that have to be made in the strut tower tops. The '88 setup is not purely update/backdate.

Looks like that car has an aftermarket sunroof, similar to the one in my Formula.

Thats insanity. Stock 88 is in SM2 right?
If an 88 cradle swap puts it in emod, might as well do an engine swap and brake upgrade too since its in the same class.. I wonder what it takes to get a Fiero competitive in emod.

Sawzall.

SCCA hates the Fiero.

A *stock* '88 V6 would be in CS and a 4 cyl would be in (I think) DS... not sure. An engine swapped '88 would be in SM2, but an early car with the cradle swap goes to EMOD regardless of engine.

So my car would be in SM2 until I raise the inner rear link pivots, and then its Emod?

Well thanks for that tip. Looks like I'm Emod next time out... Not like I have the skill to worry about it yet.. :)

Correct.

You don't have to TELL anyone about that mod until you start winning, though. :thumbleft:

Now I see why hardly anyone races Fieros..
