What is it that makes the fiero great?

or better then other cars?
does it handle alot better?
is it faster?
like why is it that fieros are so great and every fiero owner downtalks other cars saying they would much rather have a fiero with "this engine or that"
can't any car be made just as good as a fiero can be made if it too had its engine swaped and ect. ect.
is it the level of performance you can get out of it for the small amount of money? isn't there other cars like first gen eclipses that can get way more and better performance for even cheaper?
why the fuck do fiero owners hold there cars values like there some sort of exotic.

cheap, midengine, easy to work on, fun to drive, look very nice, somewhat rare, GM parts are like LEGOs...

It looks tits
I can't think of another car for <$10,000 that I'd rather drive..... I'd trade for a Lotus Esprit, but I think that'd end up costing me about 15k.

It's unusual.
It's relatively inexpensive.
Upgrade engines are EASY to come by.
Did I meantion that it's unusual?

Agreed... it isn't that great. If I had the scratch, I'd be driving a Lotus or Ferrari or Pantera.
It's DIFFERENT.
It's unexpected.
It's the cheapest way to get into mid-engine handling (I KNOW that the Fiero doesn't handle all that well, but it does handle like a mid-engine car).
Its deficiencies simply present the opportunity to re-engineer that much more of it and make it that much more MINE.

For me it's the proportions of the thing. It's SO low, it only comes up to my belly button, and it's very wide for it's size also... Sitting / driving in it is just a blast with your ass right on the road, makes it feel more like a go-kart, and having a mid engine is cool as shit. Yeah, lot's of cars are better handling, or can deliver more performance per $ spent upgrading, but they all still look NORMAL. Normal = boring. The fiero has character. It may not even be the prettiest car out there, and it's certainly not very useful, but I'm not about to replace it with some speedy shoebox either.

And people get defensive over their fieros for the same reason they tend to get defensive about any other choice they've made in their life. A lot of them tend to be old and set in their ways, or young gullible, and arrogant.
But pick one of those guy's who's overprotective of the fiero, and I'll bet you anything his opinions on engines for example are just as un-swayable.
A lot of people become attached to their cars, and tend to think it's the sweetest car in the world, just cause they have one. Take a look at how much pride people take in ACTUAL shit cars. Like the cavalier. Or any other econo-car (with no distinguishing features). Look how many people love those things.

In typical NL'er fashion- the reason I have a Fiero is because it was a cheap way to get a decently fun car. I got an 85 se with a knocking motor for free, tossed in the motor/tranny from a $100 Caddy that a tree fell on and now have a cheap econo-box that has been rock-solid dependable and gets good gas mileage.
I have a 'better' car. It is just not as fun to drive and getting its bigass into a parking place is tough. So, I drive a Fiero not because it is a great car, but because it was cheap and I am cheap, so it is a pretty good match.

I like the fiero because you feel connected to the road. You can feel every little bump, great feedback from the manual steering.
Its a nice small 2 seater thats a blast to drive. Its one of the few cars from the 80s that actually looks modern today.
I really like the fiero but am not deluded in thinking it is the best car in the world. My Skyline is only 4 years newer than my 86GT and it is a world apart in technology and performance, but it lacks the feel that I love in the fiero.
Technically the Skyline is a better car but the fiero is as, or is even more fun to drive.
This spring I am looking forward to lining up my Northstar fiero and Skyline and seeing which is faster in a straight line, will be fun.

I like the car. I don't like the assholes that own them and disrespect other vehicles. It's not all that.
For myself, I liked the car because it was as small of a car as I could possibly fit in, can fly through tiny gaps in traffic, and with some horsepower it is a visceral experience. My SC3800 car was about as close to a pure track car as I'll probably ever want to drive.

I agree with Jeff. I like the car too, just not the pricks who think the car is better then it is and downplay everyone elses car choice even if that car is way better then a Fiero.
So many people say they are cheap to modify and go fast, but how many of those people actually own fast Fieros? I mean if its cheap, there should be tons in the 12's. FAct is it is cheap to make a fiero fast. Its just that this cheap car, attracts even cheaper assholes.

I was thinking about that recently after seeing an 86GT for sale for 10k, and in only OK condition.
Fiero owners often complain about paying over 500, then when selling demand at least 5k because they touched it.
Not everyone is like that of course, else I never would have gotten my $300 Formula, but it seems like quite a few owners are.
