Health Insurance is a dripping load of Aids-monkey spunk.
Wow....
I'm SO fucking glad I'm Canadian. Was doing a little poking around for some insurance packages (was considering working in the US for a year).
Premise:
-> I'm a gainfully employed technician, and I make enough money that I'm comfortably able to support myself and my wife (if she didn't work, which she does).
-> My job is not dangerous; and although I do handle some hazardous materials, it's not considered a "risky" occupation.
-> I'm in good physical shape (I'm proud to admit, after working my arse off at the gym... 10 more lbs to my target weight and waistline), non-smoker, married, with no history of heart disease in the family.
Looks good, huh?
Small problem; I've got congenital Asthma. I've had it since birth, and I have been hospitalized for it in the past. I've not had anything resembling a serious attack in nearly 5 years, and am at best a casual user of my "maintenance" drugs.
Best fucking quote I got was $240US per month for myself--WITHOUT coverage for my wife.
That's nearly half a fucking mortgage payment.
Thanks, but no thanks.
Any stupid dipshit that talks snot about everyone being responsible for their own healthcare to ease the tax burden on some fatass white-collar warthog needs to be dragged through a ditch lined with shit-streaked barbed wire and dumped into a swimming pool full of lemon juice.
I'll just pay the $300/mo in taxes and stay right where I am.
Honest to fucking God, Private Health insurance ONLY works if you A) are a really stupid fucking moron, B) are in perfect health, and C) won't ever get sick.
Rant!

if you come work fin the US pending on what job you get, the company will pay for your health insurance. Ifyou will be self employed then you will need to find your own or not have any.
I pay $15 a month for mine and the company picks up the rest.
Honestly I never get sick. If I do its almost the deadly kind. Last time I was sick was about 13 years ago. I had pneumonia and missed a week of school. Other then that its just the 2-3 day cold or herpes outbreak...

Whipped: You seem surprised... The American Way is to saddle up with a 40-year mortgage on a $400,000 house while making minimum wage + tips.
I prefer having my TDR somewhere around 25% or so :thumbleft:

A 200k house here is pretty average for a "small" 3br. Unless you're putting 50% down I don't see how you could get that below 1k/mo.Mach10 wrote:Whipped: You seem surprised... The American Way is to saddle up with a 40-year mortgage on a $400,000 house while making minimum wage + tips.

Do you mind? I'm trying to slag the sorry excuse for a health "care" system in the states.
:cussing:
But to answer your question, Winnipeg is a shit-hole, but a decent sized 3br in a good part of town can still be had for well under 200k.

Yeah, we know. The difference is our doctors are paid $500k per year. Plus malpractice insurance comes out of that. We're pretty sue happy down here.
I think I read that if some operation costs $100k here, it costs $10k in India, which is why a lot of americans are flying there for expensive surgeries that they can't afford here. And of course, you know indian doctors are top notch... look at Sanjay Gupta.

Housing mkt in florida is much different. 1k sq foot homes can go for 200k+
There is a reason for the huge pricegap. Noone wants to live in Winnipeg.
Also I don't think there is anything too wrong with our current health care system. AT least we don't pay out the ass in taxes taking care of everyone.
I would be pissed as hell paying Eb's medical bills.

I paid 318/mo for health insurance when i paid my own way a couple years ago...that was as someone under 25 with no pre-existing conditions.
currently on a group plan paying 50/mo...not sure how much the firm i work for pays.
US has the best possible medical care available in the world. you just have to pay for it.

No doubt, these brainwashed American idiots as they say are too fucking lock-stepped brainwashed to see that. Oh, BTW, you didn't bother to add the premium co-pays if you have insurance thru work, the deductables and the use co-pay. Not to mention, the insurance company trying to weasel out of paying off for reasons like pre-existing conditions or whatever they can drum up. If you got insurance with your condition, they would make you wait 1-2 years before they would pay anything. Hell, even the VA denies former soldiers who were injured in war, they scrutinize if their current condition was a result of war or occurred after that.
The amggotted right fears that if we even tried a socialized meds program that people would love and demand it, which is why they fight so hard against. Few people have real, comprehesive medical coverage and most go w/o to support that anomoly. Amazing; poor people who vote R and denounce socialized meds.
Isn't that like saying I have the biggest dick around, I just can't get it hard?eHoward wrote:I paid 318/mo for health insurance when i paid my own way a couple years ago...that was as someone under 25 with no pre-existing conditions.

BTW, what do you have to reference teh US having the best med care available?
Don't worr, no one pays mine since I don't get medical privs, like some fucking animal in our *BEST* system in the world, as choreographed by Americans who have never traveled outside the US bu are specialists on worldwide medical care. :scratch:Shaun41178(2) wrote:Housing mkt in florida is much different. 1k sq foot homes can go for 200k+

BTW, let's can this ignorance of this generation paying for whoever's whatever. We have been a debtor nation since 1840ish and the debt fell in the 1920's and during Eisenhower's term, actually 1 year in 1969 with war surplus funds, other than that, it has risen every year, 250B per year during Reagan/Bush's 12 years, >500b per year during the chimp's term. SO to say I am paying for jackshit is bullshit. Right now we match the world in military spending, not counting the 120-150B gifts to Haliburton every few months for the so-called Iraq War, so if your taxes are going to something it's the military/Iraq.Shaun41178(2) wrote:Housing mkt in florida is much different. 1k sq foot homes can go for 200k+

When Obama gets in, we will soon pull out of Iraq and move toward taking care of the homefront, healing our associations with the world, and balancing the budget. Sorry all you Bush lovers, the party and record deicits will soon be over.
So why is your average life expectancy lagging behind other developed nations?eHoward wrote: US has the best possible medical care available in the world. you just have to pay for it.
Millions of forclosed mortgages indicates that many Americans can't even put a roof over their own heads. How can you reasonably expect these same people to pay med bills?
The idea of "each pays for his own" is a childish conservative fantasy that really only works for Old Money. The reality of the world is federal bail-outs, subsidies, and skewed domestic policy.
At least the Canadian government is honest about it; the cost of our way of life is right there, 3rd column, on your pay stub.

Viagra was originally developed as a vasodialator to treat blood pressure problems.whipped wrote:

During the clinical trials they found that all the opened capilliaries made the blood rush into certain spongy tissues faster than it could get out.
Guess which target market had better earning potential?

It never really worked, it's just that you used to get slapped down for talking about it. From the country of oppression, black/white bathrooms, antimiscegenation, juvenile executions, we give you financial disaster. Now the Russians can laugh at us for our failed economic system as some assinine Americans did in 89. Socialism is the only longterm workable socio-economic system.
I don't blame the rich for advocating financial anarchy (American Capitalism), but what makes me scratch  is when the poor dummies advocate it. It really shows their ignorance.
