So how much hp/torque can this block handle? If one were to use Gen IV heads, intake, and a good-sized hairdryer, can it put down the big numbers like the Sport Compact racers do and live to tell about it?

Honestly I dont' know how much it can handle. Noone has pushed one and then told the story.
I have no problem beleiving though that it can take 400+ hp all day and not flinch. Which of course is almost more then enough in a fiero.
I mean with the right cam and head work with gen 3 heads you can do 250 hp n/a. Now add a 100 shot and you are now at 350. Thts not that much.
The block has thicker main bearing bulkheads then a iron block and also has a reinforced lifter valley area. its strong.
