In one week (5-11-05) my car hits the Dyno.
Next wednesday my car goes here, http://www.sfp.net/serv_dyno.asp for a good Dyno tuning. They are 150 per hour, but they are the closest and I am already two hours away.
My car will be tuned to run its best.
I am running a low mile 4 . 9, shaved heads, with new valve job, New Holley 500 cfm carb, advance timing kit, and an isuzu 5spd.
So I quess I will be the first carbed 4 . 9 to show dyno numbers.
Taking guess' on my HP anf TQ numbers. Closest guess doesnt get shit.

Not guessing low. Every 4. 9 dyno, even PFI with Rockcrawls chip ends up in the mid 150s for whp. I don't see how adding a carb is going to improve those numbers.
The 4. 9 needs a cam and head work before it will start to show higher numbers. Its diesel like cam really sucks in the higher rpm band. If you are running stock valve springs, they will also float around the 5200-5500rpm range.
Unless there is money spent in the areas that matter then it won't matter what type of intake or exhaust is on the motor. Shaun showed me a dyno sheet the other day of a 4.9 with the Allante intake and the motor still made 15X hp.
The 4 .9 can be built into a respectable motor, Rockcrawl showed that by doing some head work, roller rockers and a cam which put his 4 .9 in the mid 13s. I'm guessing he had around 225-250whp.

I have no Idea what to expect, but I will say that I think I should have better rwhp #'s simply because I am running a 5speed instead of the sloppy auto trans. Also it is beleived that alot of the 4 .9's out there are running in limp mode.
But, what do I know. we'll see soon enouph. At least it's going on the dyno.
I only have one worry though that my friend brought up. My engine has had no break in time and I would hate to see something break on the dyno. Anyone have any thoughts or advice on this?

This past weekend, Chris Ackerman's four-dot-nine dynoed 180/264 through a Getrag.crzyone wrote:Not guessing low. Every 4. 9 dyno, even PFI with Rockcrawls chip ends up in the mid 150s for whp.
And it's not even a crate motor. It's a pullout. Bone stock, I believe. It does have Rockcrawl's chip, though.
The results will be posted on www.etrackmasters.com They're not there yet, though. (Just last years'.)
Best of luck with yours.

We will see, a 4 .9 making 200hp assuming its in good condition should see a maximum 170 through the wheels with a getrag with 15% loss. I imagine it might gain a few hp with no ps pump and such, so, I guess the motor could be around 175-180. But. This motor is running a carb which is definitly less efficient than the stock PFI setup, assuming the PFI has Rockcrawls's chip and is not in limp mode.

With 200 at the input, the 282 is probably around 12-13% loss. At ~300 at the input shaft, it's about 10% loss.crzyone wrote:We will see, a 4 .9 making 200hp assuming its in good condition should see a maximum 170 through the wheels with a getrag with 15% loss. Since I ran 12.8 on 255 RWHP... I think he's between 200 and 220 at the wheels. The 4.9 doesn't do as well as the Northstar with the 282 because it runs out of RPM so soon.crzyone wrote:The 4 .9 can be built into a respectable motor, Rockcrawl showed that by doing some head work, roller rockers and a cam which put his 4 .9 in the mid 13s. I think he had that car dyno'd at some point in time.
Fucker. I'm pretty sure that was meant to be funny. Actualy it was.Shaun41178(2) wrote: Let er rip all the way to 5k.
Anyway. I hope I get good numbers. No one realy knows how well the carb works with this engine and everyone loves to talk smack about it. So we will see. It'll be proffesional tuned by a dyno shop and they Guarenteed that it would be running at it's best when I leave. They said they have jets and anything it may need so I dont need to bring anything.
I hope so. With everything I have been through, I'd be devistated, and you would not want to be in the car with me on the way home. This is my first time to the dyno so, it will be an experience. I'll taking my digital camera for pics, and it also takes short mpgs. So I'll have some vids too.Chris, your motor is fine. Its got thousands of miles on it. The fact you did some headwork doesnt' change anything.
SO, who's gonna eat a bug if I get 180 rwhp or more?
