Sunbird?

Post by product1620 »

Ok, so my friend is on the hunt for his first car, and while we were looking in the paper he came across an 87 Sunbird GT (turbo), with a recently rebuilt engine, according to the owner. My question is, does anyone have any experience with these cars, for the most part, are they decently reliable, or do they catch on fire, and burn to the ground like Fieros?

I think they had headgasket problems. I have seen a few in the JY with nearly 300,000KM on them. My dash came from an 87 with 294,000KM on the odometer.

They were around 150HP.

ya, my mistake, your right. i was thinking of the 4 cylinder that the cavalier came with. either way, it will respond well to mods, but not past 250hp. my uncle had one.

I don't think he'll have to worry about making anywhere near that kind of power, in fact, he'll probably keep it stock.

Thanks

It's 20 years old man. If he's buying it for reliability, he can't afford a car.

They are not related to a Chevette motor. I have a Chevette, and they are totally different, also, werent the early ones 1.8L, and the later ones 2.0L? Chevette engines are all Iron, sunbird OHC engines are aluminum head.
