Basically, the truck was not worth much, and noone was hurt, so they don't really care.

What part of Minnesota are you from? Sucks about the truck but someone is going to have a hard time claiming that one with their insurance company. Could be worse though. Here in tucson you can do something like that and even when the cops show up on your doorstep and ask you about it all you have to say is that you left a note. Even with 2 independent witnesses stating that they saw you drive off without leaving a note it doesn't matter and it makes it all OK in the cops opinion.
