Bought a DSM today. Now what mods?!
Today I purchased a 90 AWD Turbo 5 speed eagle talon. Someone traded it in on a new car because the turbo on the talon is broken. The interior and body are in really good shape. I only paid $400 for the car (running and driving). I'm getting a big 16G turbo, 3"down pipe and 3" exhaust this weekend for it. I was wondering if anyone here knew of any other mods to do to it. I know there's a ton more mods, but this car is going to be my new daily driver so I want it somewhat reliable (If DSM's were ever reliable). I wouldnt mind driving a 12 second car every day. :thumbleft:

other then the upgrades you have planned already, you need fuel
550's will probably be more then good and a fuel computer like an SAFC. Hell 440's might do it.
Boost controller will be needed. Perhaps a new BOV or do the dent mod on the stock one.
Air intake of course, perhaps a bigger intercooler when you can.
In the meantime I suggest getting the stock one cleaned out. Its prob got a ton of sludge in it making it practically useless.
Also new uppipe
Buscher racing will have a lot of what you need.
I suggest dsmforums.com (I think) for used parts for decent prices.
All that should be good for 350 crank pending on tune and boooooooooost

Thats what I was planning. I'm also going to port the stock exhaust manifold because I've heard they are restrictive. I'm not sure what boost I'm planning on running, maybe 16-18PSI. I'm also going to be getting a lightweight flywheel and a ACT 2600 clutch for it. This should turn out to be a pretty nice daily driver. :flipa:

Fast88Fiero, good score! I'm jealous. I want a $600 TSi! Even before the upgrade you can probably have that sucker back in working order for $300!
Keep us posted. Pictures?

Heh... won't be a "nice" daily with a 2600... it'll be dailyable, just not very nice. Include the cost of a billet shift fork in your clutch budget.
Friend of mine has a 2G Talon that has cracked 11's. It's pretty nice, but he runs 21 psi on 93 octane.

Screw the SAFC. Throw that thing in the trash and get DSMLink for 1G's when it comes out (might already be out). www.dsmlink.comShaun41178(2) wrote:other then the upgrades you have planned already, you need fuel

Don't DSM's already have 450's stock?
Big intercooler is a must. Bigger turbo, too. You'll get bored with the 16G really quickly.
www.dsmtalk.com is another good site.

In car
And if I read the Autometer catalog right, that boost guage says 50psi.
Everything in that video is impressive.

Video's playing normal speed but looks like it's fast forward. LOL.Shaun41178(2) wrote:http://www.dsmtimes.org/shepherd/8.55@176.9.mpg
Who's car is that? Finishes the 1/4 in 4th gear... Makes me think he's running a Magnus Dogbox.
Wonder what he's doing for engine management... whatever it is, he sure could use some anti-lag.
when his shifts drop him down to 8000 rpm i'd think soThe Dark Side of Will wrote:Video's playing normal speed but looks like it's fast forward. LOL.Shaun41178(2) wrote:http://www.dsmtimes.org/shepherd/8.55@176.9.mpg

Took off the crappy broken stock turbo today and installed the Big 16G. I removed the fucking exhaust since someone cut the flex piece out of the down pipe and clamped in a tube and did a really shitty job installing a cat, so the car is running with an open downpipe right now. It still needs plugs and wries since it has champion plugs and some shit autozone wires. It pulls pretty good once the turbo spools now. I need to get the 3" down pipe, 3" exhaust and some hard charge pipes now. I'm happy. :love10:
