Which supports my philosophy of "Design to Spec". He would have been faster sooner if he'd just decided that he was going balls out from the get go and built the car accordingly...
Ya know, that applies to FieroX also.
The fastest usually stands atop the tallest pile of broken S#$%.
But nobody's really TRIED to take a Fiero that far...

It wouldn't just be about clutch changes -- isn't the idea for a 6 spd sequential?

I can and have before. Comes from replacing all the isuzu transmissions I've replaced. :thumbleft:The Dark Side of Will wrote:You can change a Fiero clutch in 4 hours?
No offense, but that sounds like Aaron's claim of setting DOHC cam timing in 15 minutes.

honestly i only really want 5 gears - i don't like having to do too much rowingbryson wrote:It wouldn't just be about clutch changes -- isn't the idea for a 6 spd sequential?
I don't see why someone couldn't use the hears out of a longitudinal tranny and use them on custom shafts in a horizontal setup. would save a lot of money on gear fabrication

That's not as easy as it sounds. Longitudinal transmissions have TWO stage reduction, and the counter shaft is typically one piece. That means that you can't use *ratios* out of the longi box, just gears. Getting the ratios I'd want when constrained to a certain number of teeth & tooth pitch on one side of the ratio AND getting the shaft centers to come out the same wouldn't be fun.
In short, I don't think that's a good idea.
However, I think that synchro and blocker ring assemblies from common transmissions could be used. The new Tremec TR6060 in the Viper uses triple cones on 1 & 2 and doubles on the rest. It's only a matter of time before GM puts the TR6060 in the Vette, GTO, etc in place of the T56.
Hell, the FGP F40/6 has triple cones on 1 & 2, doubles on 3 & 4 and singles on 5 & 6. That's a much more common box.
Then all I'd have to do would be design dog engagement collars to go in place of the synchros for minimum parts difference between synchromesh & dog engagement. Dogs are better with a sequential mechanism.
